I’m Patrick Mauldin — a multi-disciplinary designer in Austin, Texas with a love for anything visual and creative. I work across a handful of mediums, including static and motion graphics, oil painting, drone photography & videography, and web design.
From a young age, I was the kid drawing on any scrap of paper I could find — including the backs of homework assignments. That eventually turned into digital doodling, and in college, I even started sketching during class to try and impress a girl named Savanna. Somehow, that worked and we got married in 2015.
Photography has always been something I enjoyed, but honestly, I was more drawn to what happened after the photo was taken. I’d spend hours in Photoshop comping multiple shots into one surreal image. I even won a few online contests, which came with zero real prizes — but plenty of motivation to keep experimenting. That eventually turned into a slow (and ongoing) self-taught dive into graphic design, web design, and later UI/UX. I’ve really come to enjoy the mix of logic and creativity that comes with UI work — solving problems and building something intuitive, while still making it look great.
In 2016, I bought my first drone for a trip to Italy. I was hooked immediately. There’s something amazing about being able to capture landscapes from angles that most people never get to see. That trip sparked the beginning of Volare Aerial Videography — my drone photography and videography business. It’s been a fun way to merge my childhood obsession with RC helicopters and my love of storytelling through visuals.
And in 2023, I decided to pick up oil painting — despite having never touched a paintbrush and not realizing there was such a thing as opaque vs. transparent versions of the same color. But I ended up loving it. It’s been a rewarding challenge and gives me a totally different way to create bold, vivid images that pencil never quite allowed.
